MuhentoNo internet? Your team still sees each other.
An Android app for cycling and hiking groups. Small LoRa boards pass positions, quick messages and SOS from board to board without mobile data; anyone without a board joins the same map over the internet.

Overview
Most group-tracking apps need mobile data on every phone, and coverage ends right where the ride gets good. Muhento pairs each phone with a small LoRa board over Bluetooth. The boards relay locations to each other on 868 MHz, and the boards in between carry the team further.
Members without a board aren’t left out: they join the same map over the internet, or through a nearby phone that has a board. Family can follow a ride from a browser with a link.
What it does
Team map
Everyone’s position, heading and track, and when each of them was last heard.
SOS
Press and hold; after a five-second countdown it goes to the team with your location. It doesn’t call emergency services.
Falling behind
If someone drops behind the sweep, the sweep and the leader are told once, in one short sentence.
Quick messages
Eight one-tap messages such as “stop, regroup” or “flat tyre”. The phone can read incoming ones aloud.
Ride recording and routes
Speed, distance, climb and altitude, exported as FIT or GPX. Open a GPX route and get told when you leave it.
Family following
Share a link while recording; family sees your live position and route in a browser, with nothing to install.
How it’s built
A Flutter app, Android first, talks to the board over Bluetooth LE. Today’s boards are built on an off-the-shelf ESP32-S3 development board with a LoRa radio, GNSS, a barometer and an 18650 cell. Members without a board join through a relay on Cloudflare Workers, and a Wear OS recorder is in testing.

Why I’m building it
Muhento is the hardware side of my work coming back: radios, telemetry and field testing, applied to a group that needs to know where everyone is when the phones go quiet.
Good to know
- The board isn’t on sale yet; you can join without one.
- The app is in Turkish for now.
- Licensed under GPL-3.0; the source repository isn’t public yet.
